At PilgrimUL, we are excited to introduce the “Roan” Ultralight Framed Backpack, a game-changer for thru-hikers, weekend adventures, and any backcountry adventurer requiring a backpack without compromise. Designed with an innovative carbon fiber hoop frame, this backpack sets a new standard for comfort and overall weight. We set out to design a backpack with a class-leading “capacity to weight” ratio to create a true ultralight workhorse. To our knowledge, the Roan is the only pack available that can reach 35-40 pounds of capacity comfortably while weighing a mere 22 ounces.

The “Roan” offers a thoughtfully designed layout with multiple compartments and pockets, allowing for efficient gear organization, while external attachment points cater to trekking poles, water bottles, and more. Crafted for long-distance treks, this backpack’s minimalist yet robust construction embodies reliability and functionality, making it the go-to choice for those seeking to embrace outdoor journeys without compromise.

*August 2025 Update – We have updated to 3rd Generation packs – Updates include higher quality fabrics for the back panel and non-removable, sewn-in shoulder straps for greater durability. The adjustable strap height feature is no longer offered.

Features:
-Inverted U-shaped carbon fiber frame keeps the pack structured in both vertical and horizontal directions. (Can be removed to convert to frameless pack)
-Integrated 1/4″ foam back panel
-Load lifters
-Removable hip belt
-Y strap for strapping down additional gear such as a bear canister
-Detachable elastic ice axe loop and gear loop for securing both the top and bottom of your axe or trekking poles
-Bound seams for strength
-Optional, durable bottom pouch for easy access to small items
-Elastic side compression cordage
-Detachable side compression straps. You can clip the roll top down the sides or on top!
-Large Ultra Grid side pockets for multiple 1L bottles with sewn-in elastic top to keep items secure (Ultra Stretch option will have slightly less volume but hold items more tightly)
-Oversized, pleated Ultra stretch front pocket for quickly stashing items.
